Context
The UNESCO Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD is to generate and scale-up ESD action. It is to make a substantial contribution to the post-2015 agenda, to generate and scale up action in all levels and areas of education and learning to accelerate progress towards sustainable development, not least in higher education.
The GAP has two objectives:
- to reorient education and learning so that everyone has the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that empower them to contribute to sustainable development – and make a difference;
- to strengthen education and learning in all agendas, programmes and activities that promote sustainable development.
The IAU is an official key partner of GAP Priority Action Area 2: Transforming learning and training environments, representing its members, fostering higher education’s involvement in addressing the new Global Goals through advocacy and training of HE leadership, fostering research on SD and developing its Global portal on HEforSD where HE leaders and HESD Managers can find the resources they need to further develop their own policies and initiatives.
