University of Yaoundé I

About: 

Created by Decree N° 93/036 of January 29, 1993, the University of Yaoundé I is a Public, Scientific and Cultural Establishment with legal personality and financial autonomy. It is placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education of Cameroon. 
 

Mission: 

The University of Yaoundé 1 has the following missions:

• to develop and transmit knowledge;
• to increase students' capacity for research and development;
• to bring to the highest level and at the best pace of progress the higher forms of culture and research;
• to provide access to higher education for all those who have the vocation and the ability to do so;
• to contribute to the support of social and cultural development;
• to support and strengthen the practice of bilingualism

Note: following a university reform in 1993, the University of Yaounde was split into two (University of Yaoundé I and University of Yaoundé II)
