he Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI) is the research unit of Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU). Formerly known as the Centre for ODL, Research and Scholarship (CODL,R&S) unit, CRI is headed by Professor B. C. Chisaka since November 2012. The Director of Research and Innovation has the responsibility for the planning, research activities that are an essential pre-requisite to formulate coherent policies in Research in the University. CRI plays an integral role in spearheading all research activities conducted at Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU).

CRI Mission

  • Providing thought leadership and agency in knowledge generation and application
  • The Centre for Research and Innovation is responsible for the following activities in the University:
  • Identify scalable, sustainable and high impact multi- and interdisciplinary research and innovation clusters.
  • Create and sustain an environment that encourages, supports and rewards a vibrant research, scholarship and innovation culture.
  • Enhance engagement with alumni, business/industry, government and its entities and the broader community for local, regional and international cooperation.
  • Strengthen the capacity of ZOU staff to undertake international quality research that leads to innovation.
  • Facilitate International Research Conferences (IRCs)
  • Facilitate Vice Chancellor’s Research Seminars
  • Train staff on quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods.
  • Build capacity in intellectual property management.
  • Train staff to write fundable research projects.
  • Continue to grow the volume of our research outputs and build on the improvements made to their quality and reputation.
  • Participation in Research and Intellectual Output - Science, Engineering and Technology (RIOSET)
  • Compile Institutional Statistics and Surveys.
  • Publication of research outputs
