The Academy of Research and Higher Education - ARES

The Academy of Research and Higher Education (ARES) is a public body founded in 2014 to coordinate higher education in Belgium. ARES is the federation of higher education establishments of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. Its missions consist of guaranteeing the public service mission of general interest of higher education, supporting institutions and ensuring their overall coordination in their teaching, research and community service missions and encouraging collaboration between them, while respecting their autonomy. ARES brings together 127 higher education establishments in Wallonia and Brussels and comprises a team of more than 60 people under the direction of Laurent Despy, administrator, and specializing in higher education, academic affairs, international relations, development cooperation, statistical studies and communication.
