Founded in 1457, Albert Ludwig Universität Freiburg (University of Freiburg) is one of Germany's oldest universities and an institution of excellence. More than 200 fields of study and a wide array of possible degrees attract a total of around 25,000 students to Freiburg, including many international students and junior researchers.The University of Freiburg is part of a global network encompassing over 300 partnerships with prestigious higher education institutions on all five continents. In the 2019/20 winter semester 4.385 international students from around 130 countries were matriculated at the university. In addition, the university has around 750 international employees from more than 90 countries in its academic, administrative, and technical staff. The Sustainable University Work Group deals with questions of sustainability at the University of Freiburg. Its members are employees from various relevant departments and staff units, staff councils, student representatives and members of student sustainability initiatives. The Sustainable University Work Group meets about six times a year and initiates and coordinates various sustainability projects. It is open to suggestions from employees and students.
