Formally established in 1965, Umeå University is a comprehensive university covering research and education in medicine, science and technology, social sciences, arts and humanities, and educational sciences.

Climate and sustainability at Umeå University

Using a proactive and innovative approach, Umeå University takes action for a sustainable society. The university contributes with research, education, new solutions and dissemination of knowledge as well as reduces emissions from the university’s own activities. This to achieve Sweden’s long-term target of having zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2045 at the latest. Umeå University has also signed the Climate Framework for Higher Education Institutions.

Umeå Business School of Economics (USBE)

Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics (USBE) has a long tradition of sustainability work and also the only ISO 14001 certified department of the Umeå University. USBE acts for a sustainable development by creating and spreading knowledge through education, research and in collaboration with others. They are promoting knowledge about, and for, sustainable development and are using the 17 sustainable development goals as a framework when we are creating responsible leaders for the future. Their work on sustainability is coordinated in the Council for Sustainable Development and involves all parts of the school.
