UNEP's vision is to inspire the next generation of young leaders to become environmentally conscious individuals with a deep love for the planet.
For this purpose, IAU supports our partners from UNEP and the HESI network in our aim to foster environmental education and education for sustainable development - critical investments for a green future.
But more than that, our joint vision is to turn the “youth bulge”, into a “youth boom” with new opportunities for green jobs, new channels to reach people through video gaming platforms, in addition to working with University partners to support HEd leadership around the world.
UNEP is working with Universities through its Youth and Education Alliance as well as with partners such as the Scout Movement and the video gaming industry through the Playing for the Planet Alliance to support their communities of millions of young people to learn and act in support of the environment.
This initiative is designed to increase demand for green jobs in the workforce and help create a stronger supply of necessary green and environmental sustainability skills through education. The goal is for this to lead to a greener economy and provide better job opportunities for young people.
This initiative consists of a top down effort via UNEP's Youth and Education Alliance and relevant ministries, as well as a bottom up effort via youth engagement and through pathways for connected implementation via enhancing education and employer connections.
